Guduchi (Giloy / Heart-Leaved Moonseed) – Tinospora cordifolia

Guduchi, also known as Giloy, is a climbing shrub that grows widely across India, particularly in tropical regions such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala, often seen twining around neem and mango trees. In Ayurveda, it is honored as a rasayana (rejuvenative) with powerful detoxifying, immune-boosting, and restorative properties. Traditionally, Guduchi is used to reduce fever, support liver health, and clear excess Pitta and Kapha from the body. It is also prescribed for enhancing digestion, balancing blood sugar, and improving vitality. Its stem, rich in bitter and cooling qualities, is the part most often used in formulations like Guduchi Ghana Vati or decoctions for strengthening immunity and resilience. In many Indian households, Guduchi stems are boiled into a herbal drink to fight seasonal fevers and build resistance.

Caution: While generally safe, overuse may lower blood sugar levels excessively or cause digestive upset; those with diabetes or chronic illness should take it under medical guidance.
