Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba / False Daisy)

Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba / False Daisy)

Bhringaraj is a small creeping herb that grows in moist places across India, especially in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. In Ayurveda, it is known as the “king of hair” (Kesharaja) because of its long-standing use for promoting strong, healthy hair. The whole plant is used in medicine, but the leaves are most commonly prepared as juice, powder, or infused into oil.

Bhringaraj is best known for preventing hair fall, reducing dandruff, and supporting natural hair growth. Ayurvedic hair oils made with Bhringaraj are popular for cooling the head, calming stress, and nourishing the scalp. Beyond hair health, Bhringaraj is also used to support the liver, improve digestion, and strengthen immunity. In Ayurveda, it is considered a rejuvenating herb (Rasayana) that balances pitta and vata while promoting sound sleep and mental calmness.

Bhringaraj is generally safe when used in the right amounts as oil, powder, or capsules. However, very high oral doses may sometimes cause loose stools or abdominal discomfort due to its cleansing action. People with chronic liver disease, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those taking other strong medications should consult an Ayurvedic doctor before regular use.
